Colorado Discover Ability has teamed up with the Adventure Bound River Expeditions to offer exciting whitewater river trips. The licensed crew of the Adventure Bound is competent in the specialized skills of river running, knowledgeable in the interpretive aspects of the Colorado Plateau, and are first-aid certified. Adventure Bound has offered professionally-guided whitewater raft trips since 1963, featuring one- to seven-day trips on the Colorado, Green and Yampa rivers in Colorado and Utah.

Exhilirating rapids, beautiful scenery, great side hikes, rustic camping, and incredible food make each of our trips unique and memorable. These whitewater trips will take you through some of the most spectacular whitewater destinations in Colorado and Utah, where fun and excitement never ends.

Our rafting trips are in remote wilderness areas with limited access, including Canyonlands National Park, Dinosaur National Monument, Desolation and Westwater canyons. There are no crowds where we'll take you.

Whether you enjoy oar, large pontoon, inflatable kayak or combination format, we have a trip for you. This variety is an important consideration for mixing the experienced rafter with those new to the sport so that everyone can have a great river trip. This mix is accomplished by the inflatable kayak. These craft are self-bailing, stable, highly responsive and very maneuverable.

Lodore - Green River Dates and Rates
3 and 4 Day Expeditions
A magnificent towering canyon marks the start of the trip at the "Gates of Lodore" and follows one of the most beautiful stretches of river anywhere. Fed by dam-controlled flows from Flaming Gorge Reservoir, the Green River through Lodore Canyon provides rafting fun throughout the summer.

The trip follows part of the route taken in 1869 by Major John Wesley Powell during his epic exploration of this continent's last uncharted wilderness.

Several challenging rapids - including "Hells Half Mile," "Disaster Falls," and "S.O.B." - lie hidden between the sheer cliffs of Lodore.

In the calm stretches wildlife abounds. As the oar-powered rafts quietly float through Lodore Canyon you may see deer, water fowl, beaver, and desert big horn sheep. We consider this trip to be a great inflatable kayak run!
  • Rapid Classification: II - III
  • Craft: oar rafts with inflatable kayaks

Desolation - Green River Dates and Rates
4, 5, and 6 Day Expeditions
We consider the Desolation and Grey Canyons expedition in eastern Utah one of our finest trips in a remote wilderness area. Hidden away in the deepest canyon in Utah are numerous rapids, pristine beaches and cool cottonwood glens.

In calmer stretches, we float the spectacular canyon filled with spires, arches, and balanced rocks. Hiking provides the chance to explore ancient Anasazi Indian ruins and rock art, clear creeks and old abandoned ranches.

Camp is set along the river in wild, completely isolated sites. The sandy beaches cool off in the evenings and provide a memorable backdrop for this adventure getaway.

Due to weight limitations on the charter flight your baggage must weigh less than 25 pounds. If you would like to order beer or soft drinks please call in advance. Our equipment vehicles will transport beverage orders to the launch site the day before the trip.

Westwater - Colorado River Dates and Rates
1, 2, and 3 Day Expeditions
Hidden away in western Colorado and eastern Utah is Westwater Canyon, which offers an exceptional whitewater rafting trip as the Colorado River begins the last leg of its journey through Colorado.

On this hidden stretch of the Colorado River you can unwind as you enjoy the beauty and solitude of desert canyon country. Side canyon stops allow for a tasty riverside lunch and short hikes to explore hidden splendors including Indian pictographs.

As you float down the Colorado through the multi-hued red sandstone canyons, the uplift of the Colorado Plateau gives rise to the oldest exposed rock in Utah - the precambrian metamorphic gneiss and schist of the "Black Rocks" area.

Not long after entering Utah, the Colorado River begins its descent into Westwater Canyon. The river channel begins to narrow and canyon walls climb to over 1,500 feet above river level.

The water current becomes notably swifter as it is forced into the descending and narrowing channel of Westwater Canyon. It is here that your trip offers the thrill and challenge of running some of the best white water rapids in the region. Colorful names and exciting stories accompany these rapids, especially "Little Dolores," "Funnel Falls," "Skull," and "Sock-it-to-Me."

From adaptive seating systems, which are strapped to the raft, to a few systems that make our camps accessible, we would venture to say that CDA makes the river and its beaches more accessible than most restaurants in town.
