Take our experienced guides on the river with you and let us organize a trip that fits your calendar, budget and desires. We provide complete logistical support for your trip:
We organize one- and multi-day trips on Colorado and Gunnison rivers. You will paddle with us into side channels and explore the hillsides for wildlife. And when you get tired or are ready for a break, just relax on the beach and perhaps do some fishing. We offer trips for groups, families and individuals and our trips are open to everyone: for individuals with disabilities, as well as for their families and friends. Our local floating season on the Colorado River and Gunnison River typically runs from May through September. Prices start at $30 per person.
All of us are adapting to go on the water since our normal environment is dry land. At Colorado Discover Ability, we primarily use inflatable kayaks from A.I.R.E. as well as hard-shell kayaks and canoes. We generally turn over our equipment inventory every 2-3 years so our boats are in great shape. The inflatable kayaks we use offer high performance yet provide a somewhat more forgiving ride and are much easier for us to use with our adaptive seating systems.
Kayaking and other paddle sports offer an incredible opportunity for adapting to each individual's strengths. For wheelchair athletes, the main objective is to get the individual in a comfortable seating system that allows the client to be in an athletic position in order to balance and paddle unencumbered. CDA has designed a few different systems for various levels of injury and we continue to develop other systems to assist our clients so they can kayak as independently as possible. Besides the fact that paddling is great exercise, it also provides the opportunity to bring people together and spend time in a beautiful environment. Our trips offer a great introduction to paddle sports for anyone who wants to play on the water. As with all our programs, the emphasis is on safety and having a great time with family and friends.
