Special Olympics

CDA Integrated Outdoor Adventures offers both winter and summer recreational programs. During the winter, CDA operates the adaptive skiing/snowboard/snowshoeing program at Powderhorn Ski Resort. Utilizing a variety of adaptive equipment and individualized instruction, the sports are individually tailored to the client's specific disability thereby enabling them to enjoy them to the fullest. The Winter 2003-2004 Season was extremely busy: lessons increased from 338 in the previous season to over 480. Our dedicated staff and over 60 volunteers spent well over 10,000 hours on the mountain.

In addition to ski and snowboard lessons, CDA also provides the training program for Special Olympic Alpine Team from the Grand Valley. Each season, the team of over 20 athletes trains every Saturday for 9 weeks and take part in both regional and state competitions. One of our athletes represented the United States in the World Winter Games in Nagano, Japan in February 2005.

During the summer, CDA's focus shifts to providing water-based recreation such as: river rafting, kayaking, water skiing and related camping activities. During the spring and summer of 2003, nineteen trips were provided for clients. These trips included:
