Team Powderhorn is CDA's Competition and Race Training Program

Colorado Discover Ability's Team Powderhorn provides race training for skiers and snowboarders with physical and/or intellectual disabilities for ski and snowboard race events.

PRICE FOR FULL WINTER SEASON

The program is offered for $250 for the winter season and includes:
  • Season pass for Powderhorn Mountain Resort
  • Minimum 8 full-day race training sessions
  • No-cost or discounted ski and snowboard rental
  • Travel and lodging related to some competition events
  • Van transportation from Grand Junction to training sessions at Powderhorn Mountain Resort
  • Team Jacket
Participants can qualify for partial and full scholarships.

PRICE FOR DROP-IN SESSIONS

Drop-in sessions are oferred for $75 per session ($55 if you have your own lift pass) and include:

  • Lift pass for Powderhorn Mountain Resort
  • Full-day race training session
  • No-cost or discounted ski and snowboard rental
  • Van transportation from Grand Junction to a training session at Powderhorn Mountain Resort
Participants can qualify for partial and full scholarships. Drop-In Sessions participants must coordinate with Program Coordinator (Ginger: 970-712-1749) prior to coming for a training session.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Every skier or a snowboarder with a diagnosed intellectual or physical disability who is at least 8 years of age is eligible to participate in Colorado Discover Ability's Team Powderhorn Competition and Race Training Program.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You must be at least 8 years old (no maximum age limit)
  • You must be able to ski independently: physical assistance limited to loading and unloading the lift; and bi/mono-ski assistance limited to loose tethering
  • You must be able tick yourself up independently after a fall
  • You must have a desire to take your skiing to the next level

Prospective team members are expected to be proficient skiers or snowboarders within their own ability level. If you just want to learn to ski or snowboard, we invite you to explore our learn-to-ski program.

A candidate and /or a legal guardian is responsible for disclosing to Head Coach, his representatives or CDA staff all health conditions that may affect his or her safety while in ski or snowboard race environment.

The Head Coach (or CDA staff) has the right to refuse team membership to anyone who might be exposed to risks in racing that cannot be mitigated by the Head Coach and his staff.

Special note: Due to limited resources, Team Powderhorn currently cannot accept any new bi-ski athletes.


FOR PARENTS, LEGAL GUARDIANS OR CARETAKERS

Parents, legal guardians, caretakers or designated representatives MUST be available to pick-up an athlete within 90 minutes after receiving a phone call from the mountain. Please make sure that you provided us with all relevant phone numbers that would allow us to reach you when your child or a person under your care is skiing or snowboarding with us. If CDA staff is unable to reach you or you fail to pick up a person under your care within 90 minutes, CDA may ask that you bring the athlete and stay at Powderhorn Resort for all future training sessions.
